ExpandPeople queue outside a Sassa office. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced revised payment dates for social grants for November 2026 ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Sassa spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the changes followed consultations between the agency and various stakeholders to ensure payments continued to be administered efficiently and securely, with minimal disruption during the election period.
National Treasury has approved the revised schedule, paving the way for the new payment arrangements to be implemented.
Under the revised schedule, payments will be made as follows: Older Persons Grant: Friday, October 30; Disability Grant: Monday, November 2; Children’s Grants: Tuesday, November 3.
Letsatsi said the adjustment was intended to support the smooth administration of social grants during the period surrounding the local government elections.
“The Agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner,” she said.
She has urged beneficiaries not to rush to its offices unnecessarily, saying payments will be processed according to the announced schedule.
Letsatsi has also reminded beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond to official communication and attend review appointments when requested.
Beneficiaries have been encouraged to rely on Sassa’s official communication channels for accurate information about grant payments and to be cautious of misinformation and disinformation circulating about social assistance.
Letsatsi said Sassa remained committed to safeguarding the integrity of the social assistance system while ensuring millions of South Africans who depend on grants continued to receive support.
He said the revised dates were part of efforts to ensure the payment process remained orderly and reliable during the election period. − TimesLIVE
