SAPS Officer Kills her Girlfriend by Driving over her

The community of Garies in the Northern Cape has been left mourning the tragic death of 27-year-old Farren Maarman, who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, a 38-year-old South African Police Service (SAPS) officer.

According to reports, the incident allegedly followed a confrontation between the couple after Maarman questioned her partner about another woman. The police officer is accused of assaulting her before deliberately driving over her and leaving the scene.

Maarman reportedly succumbed to her injuries around midnight on Sunday, 11 October 2026.

In an emotional turn of events, her parents were allegedly woken up by police officers who informed them of their daughter’s death. Reports indicate that the family was initially told she had died in a hit-and-run incident.

The accused appeared before a court in Springbok on Tuesday, 13 October, and is expected to return on Thursday, 15 October, as the legal proceedings continue.

The case has generated discussion within the community, with some residents questioning why the matter is being handled in Springbok rather than Garies.

Maarman’s death has renewed calls for justice and stronger action against gender-based violence, particularly violence against women by their intimate partners.

As the family prepares to lay their loved one to rest, community members continue to express their condolences and demand accountability.

May Farren Maarman rest in peace, and may her family find strength during this difficult time. Justice for Farren Maarman.
