REST IN PEACE: SAPS Officer Killed His Girlfriend by Driving Over Her

The community of Garies in the Northern Cape is mourning the tragic death of 27-year-old Farren Maarman, whose passing has sparked renewed calls for justice and an end to gender-based violence.

According to reports, Maarman’s 38-year-old boyfriend, who is a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer, allegedly assaulted her following a confrontation about another woman. He is further accused of deliberately driving over her before leaving the scene.

Maarman reportedly succumbed to her injuries around midnight on Sunday, 11 October 2026.

In an especially heartbreaking development, her parents were allegedly woken up by police officers who came to inform them of their daughter’s death. The family was reportedly initially told that she had died in a hit-and-run incident.

The accused appeared before a court in Springbok on Tuesday, 13 October, and is expected to return on Thursday, 15 October. The circumstances surrounding the case have prompted questions among community members, particularly regarding why the proceedings are taking place in Springbok instead of Garies.

As the legal process continues, community members are demanding accountability and justice for Farren. Her tragic death has also highlighted ongoing concerns about violence against women.

Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.

May Farren Maarman rest in eternal peace. Justice for Farren.
