Rashid Tanko admits Agbenyo helped NDC remove NPP from power in 2024
NDC Director of Elections Rashid Tanko Computer has defended the appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo as a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, saying she supported the party’s efforts to remove the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from power in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Joy News, Mr Tanko said several people supported the NDC’s campaign with their own resources because they were dissatisfied with the Akufo-Addo government.
He said Ms Agbenyo was among those who contributed to the process, describing her involvement as an effort to help the NDC win the election.
“This lady came in at that time to support the process by making sure that we get out NPP from the seat, and they supported it,” he said.
When the host asked whether that meant she joined the campaign with the specific purpose of removing the NPP from power before being appointed to a position overseeing elections, Mr Tanko answered in the affirmative.
He maintained that her political support did not undermine her professional qualifications, insisting that her expertise in governance and competence were not in doubt.
“Her expertise and competence is not in doubt. They are not even attacking her expertise and competence at all,” he said.
