Pedri reveals why he asked to be substituted during Barcelona’s Champions League win
According to a report by GOAL on Wednesday October 14, 2026, Barcelona midfielder Pedri has explained why he asked to be substituted during his side’s 4-1 Champions League victory over Galatasaray on Tuesday, easing concerns about a possible injury.
The Spanish international was replaced by Marc Bernal in the 73rd minute at Rams Park, with Barcelona already holding a comfortable lead after an impressive second-half performance.
Speaking to Movistar after the match, Pedri revealed that he was experiencing stomach discomfort and did not feel well enough to continue.
“My stomach was hurting and I was feeling a bit unwell. It was better to ask for a change and let someone fresh come on,” he said.
Pedri’s explanation will come as a relief to Barcelona, particularly with several important fixtures approaching. His substitution had raised concerns about his fitness, but he did not indicate that a muscular injury was responsible for his early departure.
The midfielder also praised Barcelona’s response after they fell behind in Istanbul. He admitted that the team had been too hasty in attempting the final pass during the first half but was impressed by their improvement after the break.
JoĂŁo Cancelo equalised before goals from FermĂn LĂłpez, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi completed Barcelona’s comeback and secured their second Champions League victory of the campaign.
Pedri also expressed confidence in Barcelona’s attacking strength, pointing to the quality and depth available in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Barcelona will now prepare for their upcoming fixtures, including a Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain on October 20. The club will hope Pedri remains available as they face a demanding run of matches.
