Agreements cover visa exemptions, media cooperation, information technology

Pakistan and Oman have signed six agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across several sectors, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attending the document exchange ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House.

The agreements cover mutual visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, special, official and service passports, records and archives, media cooperation, communications and information technology, and news exchange. The two sides also signed a protocol recording the minutes of the eighth session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi visited Pakistan from October 13 to 14 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

During the visit, Al-Busaidi held bilateral talks with Dar, called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and co-chaired the eighth session of the Pakistan-Oman JMC at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides held detailed discussions on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, maritime and logistics connectivity, agriculture, industry, energy, workforce mobility, human resource development, education, information technology, media and climate change.

Both leaders stressed the importance of stronger people-to-people ties, easier workforce mobility and reciprocal visits by business delegations to create new opportunities for trade, investment and institutional cooperation.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its longstanding and brotherly relations with Oman and called for closer ties to produce tangible benefits for the people of both countries. He also urged the swift implementation of agreed decisions through regular coordination and follow-up by the joint working groups.

Al-Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors. He thanked Pakistan for its warm hospitality, praised its efforts to promote regional peace and security, and expressed Oman’s resolve to deepen its longstanding partnership with Pakistan.

He acknowledged the contribution of the Pakistani community to Oman’s development and prosperity.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments and discussed cooperation in multilateral forums, including the United Nations. Al-Busaidi outlined Oman’s position on regional developments and appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts amid the changing regional situation, including at the United Nations Security Council.

MoFA said the agreements reflected the shared commitment of Pakistan and Oman to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
