On what basis didn’t I qualify? I had service passport since I was Deputy NSA boss – Nana B to Ablak
According to report by Adomonline on Wednesday 14, October 2026, New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Vice Chairman Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has questioned the basis on which Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa challenged his eligibility to possess a service passport.
According to Nana B, his entitlement to the travel document dates back to his time in public service, when he served as a Deputy Director of the National Service Authority (NSA). He also cited his subsequent role as Chairman of the Buffer Stock Company as further justification for his previous possession of a service passport.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s *Dwaso Nsem*, Nana B questioned why the Foreign Affairs Minister would argue that he was not qualified to hold the passport, considering the public positions he had previously occupied.
“I have had a service passport since I was a Deputy National Service Authority boss. I also served as Buffer Stock Board chairman, so on what basis is Ablakwa saying I didn’t qualify?” he asked.
Nana B further challenged claims or suggestions that a Member of Parliament could exert undue influence over a minister to enable him to retain the travel document.
He questioned the extent to which he could have exercised such influence, particularly after leaving public office and serving as an opposition party official.
“How is that possible? After losing an election, what locus do I have as an opposition national organiser to ask that I hold on to my service passport?” he queried.
The NPP vice chairman also criticised the Majority Caucus in Parliament for publicly displaying the biographical data page of his service passport.
He expressed concern about how the document, which he said was in the custody of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, came to be displayed publicly.
Nana B’s comments come amid an ongoing controversy over the issuance and retention of service passports by individuals who no longer occupy public positions, with the matter generating debate over the rules governing such official travel documents.
