Omar on Vance saying DOJ is investigating her: ‘That man is delusional’
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) called Vice President Vance “delusional” after he said the Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating her for possible immigration fraud, a day after federal agents raided her home in Washington.
“That is not something that is happening,” Omar told a reporter when asked about Vance’s comments. “That man is delusional.”
The Minnesota Democrat also pushed back when asked if she believed the probe would uncover wrongdoing.
Vance told reporters Tuesday at Joint Base Andrews that he had no advance knowledge of the raid.
In an interview with Fox News Digital later Tuesday, the vice president said the Trump administration would allow the DOJ to investigate Omar without political interference, but he said legal action could follow if investigators uncovered evidence of immigration fraud.
“We’re going to let the investigation unfold,” he added.
The probe stemmed from past allegations raised by GOP figures that Omar married her brother in order to obtain U.S. citizenship.
Vance in May said, “You read the things about Ilhan Omar … who she married and whether she didn’t marry this person or that person. It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the law.”
Omar has denied the allegations, which have circulated for roughly a decade now, and called the claims politically motivated.
White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed last month that a criminal investigation into the progressive lawmaker’s immigration history will take place in light of the allegations.
On Monday, federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations searched Omar’s home using a court-authorized search warrant. She has condemned the raid, accusing President Trump of targeting his political adversaries and describing the search as an intimidation tactic.
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she wrote on the social platform X. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns.”
She continued, “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”
The Democrat has repeatedly sparred with Trump, with tensions rising in particular after the president went after Somali people in connection to a widespread fraud scandal in Minnesota.
Trump has attacked Somali refugees numerous times and has called Omar, a Somali native, “garbage.”
