ODM Director of Communications Issues Fresh Update on Oburu Oginga’s Health

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale has issued a fresh update on the health of party leader Oburu Oginga amid growing attention over his recent hospital visit.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 6, Etale said he had spoken to Oburu and confirmed that the Siaya Senator was doing well. He explained that Oburu had visited Nairobi Hospital for a routine medical check-up and was not rushed there as had been reported in some quarters.

Etale urged members of the public to verify information before sharing reports about the veteran politician’s health. He said some social media posts had exaggerated the situation and created unnecessary concern.

According to the ODM official, Oburu is expected to take a temporary break from active political engagements as he continues recovering. Etale said the party leader would return to political activities when he is ready.

The latest statement follows reports that Oburu had received medical attention after returning from the United Kingdom. He travelled to the UK in September for a routine medical examination after receiving advice from his doctors and party leadership.

Oburu had previously explained that the trip was also meant to give him time to rest and recuperate. He assured ODM members that the party had established structures capable of handling its affairs during his absence.

On Tuesday evening, ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga also provided an update after visiting Oburu. She said the party leader was recovering steadily and was in high spirits.

The statements from senior ODM officials come after unverified claims about Oburu’s condition circulated online. His office later described the reports as false and urged the public to rely on official communication.

For now, ODM officials maintain that Oburu is alive, stable and recovering. Details of his private medical condition have not been officially disclosed, and the party has asked the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
