The 18 Ghana Premier League clubs have been exempted from this stage and will enter the competition in the Round of 64.
The draw has produced several notable regional derbies and meetings between clubs with recent Premier League experience.
Victory Club Warriors FC will face Eleven Wonders FC in Group 1, in a major Bono derby involving two former Ghana Premier League sides. Victory Club Warriors have invested heavily ahead of the season, while Eleven Wonders are seeking a return to the top flight. The tie has been described as a contest with the feel of a final.
In Group 2, Real Tamale United meet Yapei United in a Northern derby. RTU, former Premier League campaigners with a large following in Tamale, will take on Yapei with local bragging rights at stake.
There is another significant Northern tie in the same group, where Tamale City FC play Wa Power SC. Both were among the strongest Division One teams last season. Tamale City narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, while Wa Power SC emerged as a surprise package, setting up what is expected to be a closely fought match.
Okwawu United FC and Kotoku Royals FC will contest an Eastern Region derby in Group 9. Both clubs have Premier League pedigree, with Okwawu United hosting Kotoku Royals. Their meeting could have been a Premier League fixture two seasons ago, while Okwawu will draw confidence from its substantial local following.
King Faisal FC begin their cup campaign against Pro Sports Academy in Group 5. King Faisal are one of the most established clubs in Ghanaian football and will start as favourites against the ambitious academy side, although the unpredictability of cup football offers Pro Sports Academy an opportunity.
Also in Group 5, Ebony FC face a major challenge against Nations FC.
Great Olympics FC return to the competition in Group 8 after being relegated from the Premier League last season. The Dade Boys will play Msk Zilina FC, a highly rated Africa Academy side, in a tie that brings together experience and youthful talent.
Accra Lions FC, another former Premier League club, will meet John Paintsil FC in Group 8. Accra Lions have earned recognition for their youth development and will be aiming to make an impression in the cup.
Western Region rivals Sefwi All Stars FC and Skyy FC meet in Group 7, with Sefwi All Stars hosting a Skyy FC side that played in the Premier League just two seasons ago.
Golden Kick SC, last season’s finalists, face Attram De Visser in Group 8. Golden Kick will be hoping to reproduce their previous fairy-tale run, while Attram De Visser also have a strong reputation for academy development.
