The man was approached by gunmen who opened fire on him in Trekker Road at about 5pm, near an Engen garage and close to where traffic officers were stationed.

Provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that police were investigating the killing.

Gwala reported: “This office confirms that Khayelitsha police are investigating a case of murder, following a shooting that occurred on Tuesday 13 October 2026, in which a 25-year-old male was fatally wounded.

“According to reports, a traffic officer who was nearby responded to the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation and the motive is yet to be determined.”

When Daily Voice reached out to mense in the community they were tight-lipped. Some said they did not know what had had happened, while others said they were unaware of the shooting.

A community crime fighter said they could not confirm what led to the recent shootings but noted that some murders in the area had been linked to extortion and gangsterism.

The latest killing comes just two weeks after four men were shot dead in Site C, Khayelitsha, in an attack that left police searching for the perpetrators and trying to establish a motive.

Three victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds in Mthuma Street after police responded to reports of gunfire at about 7.15pm. Two men were inside a stationary vehicle, while the third was lying next to it. All three were declared dead at the scene.

The fourth victim, who had also been shot, was taken to a medical facility in a private vehicle but died on arrival.

The two incidents have renewed concerns about deadly violence in the area, although police have not established whether the shootings are connected.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about Tuesday’s killing to contact Crime Stop anonymously on 08600 10111.
