Lil Win Breaks Down in Tears as Nigerian Actors Allegedly Refuse Boat Trip to Nzulezu

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has reportedly broken down in tears after revealing a major setback he faced while shooting his much-anticipated movie, A Journey to Africa.

The actor said some of the Nigerian stars he brought to Ghana for the production were not willing to make the boat journey to Nzulezu, the famous stilt village in Ghana’s Western Region where important scenes of the movie were being filmed.

According to Lil Win, the actors raised concerns about their safety and refused to cross the water to the community. For the filmmaker, the situation was painful because he had already made serious preparations and spent heavily to bring the Nollywood stars to Ghana.

The development has now added another layer of controversy to a movie that has attracted attention even before its official premiere date has been announced.

A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu) is being produced under Lil Win’s Wezzy Empire and brings together some of the biggest names from Ghana and Nigeria. Nigerian stars including Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor, Mike Ezuruonye, Zubby Michael and Destiny Etiko were among those who came to Ghana for the project.

The movie is centred around Nzulezu, a unique community built on stilts over Lake Tadane in the Amansuri wetland. The location is one of Ghana’s well-known cultural and tourism sites and is central to the film’s story.

Lil Win’s reported emotional reaction is particularly striking because he had openly spoken about the effort and money involved in bringing Nigerian actors into the production.

Before filming began, the actor explained that he had chosen several Nigerian stars partly because of their quick response to scripts and willingness to work on his projects. His comments had already sparked debate among Ghanaians over the state of the country’s movie industry.

Against that background, the reported refusal to travel by boat has raised questions among fans. Some may see the actors’ concerns as understandable, especially if they genuinely felt unsafe travelling on the water. Others may argue that a production team working around a difficult location should have discussed such issues with the cast before filming began.

There is also a bigger issue at stake. Film productions involving Ghanaian and Nigerian stars are often seen as a way of bringing the two industries closer together and helping African stories reach a wider audience.

Despite the setback, the production has continued and shooting has now been completed. Lil Win was also recently honoured as Nkosuohene, or Development Chief, of Nzulezu during the filming, highlighting the growing attention the project has brought to the community.

With the film now awaiting its official premiere announcement, many viewers will be watching closely to see how much of Nzulezu made it onto the screen.
