Key NPP Members Who Have Joined Dr. Amoakoh Baah’s New Political Movement
Fresh divisions are emerging within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the decision by former party stalwart Dr. Richard Amoako Baah to establish a new political group, the New Patriotic Front (NPF).
Dr. Amoako Baah made the disclosure during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, where he stated that more than 30 influential people had already signed up to the newly formed movement. He suggested that the development was evidence of mounting discontent within the NPP.
He explained that the NPF should not be viewed simply as a result of his personal disagreements with the NPP. Rather, he described it as a broader initiative involving individuals who believe the party has departed from the principles and direction they expected from it.
Dr. Amoako Baah said dissatisfaction is also being expressed by NPP supporters outside Ghana. He claimed that a number of party members in the United States had contacted him over concerns about the way the party is being managed and the decisions being taken by its leadership.
He accused NPP executives of failing to tolerate opposing opinions and of creating an environment where constructive criticism is not adequately welcomed. He argued that this attitude toward dissenting voices contributed to the party’s poor performance in the 2024 elections.
According to the former party member, the NPP’s electoral defeat should have triggered significant changes, but he believes the leadership has so far shown limited commitment to meaningful reform and broader participation in party decision-making.
The creation of the NPF is expected to attract attention within Ghana’s political circles, particularly if additional NPP members who are unhappy with the party decide to follow Dr. Amoako Baah. Analysts believe a growing breakaway movement could make the NPP’s efforts to reorganise and regain political strength more difficult.
So far, the NPP has not issued a comprehensive response to the allegations and concerns raised by Dr. Amoako Baah. His decision has nevertheless intensified calls for the party to address its internal disagreements and consider reforms.
Observers will now be watching closely to determine whether the New Patriotic Front can expand its membership and become a significant political force, as well as what effect it may have on the NPP’s unity and prospects in future elections.
