He Refused to Believe I Was Menstruating then He Dragged Me Into His Bedroom— Student on Headmaster

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, two female students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School have shared disturbing accounts of alleged sexual abuse involving their headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai. Their claims emerged in a preview of an investigative report by JoyNews, with both students alleging that the incidents happened at the headmaster’s official residence.

One of the students claimed that the headmaster became aggressive after she informed him that she was menstruating. According to her account, he refused to believe her explanation and allegedly attempted to check for himself. She said that when she resisted, he slapped her and held her by the head, forcing her to give in following the alleged violence.

The second student also described an alleged encounter in which she claimed the headmaster struggled with her before removing her clothing and assaulting her. She further alleged that he subsequently dragged her into his bedroom, where another assault took place.

The allegations have prompted intervention from Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who has instructed the headmaster to step aside while investigations continue.

In a statement released on Monday, October 12, 2026, the Ministry of Education directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Ghana Police Service headquarters to investigate the matter.

The statement, signed by the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, stressed the seriousness of the accusations. It emphasised that parents and guardians entrust teachers with their children’s welfare, making it their responsibility to protect students rather than expose them to harm.

The Ministry further stated that it would work with the Ghana Education Service to ensure that alleged misconduct of this nature would not be tolerated in any educational institution.
