Former Barcelona star Thiago highlights the differences between Flick and Guardiola

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday October 14, 2026, former Barcelona star Thiago Alcântara has highlighted the differences between Hansi Flick and Pep Guardiola, revealing the qualities he admired most about the two highly respected managers.

Thiago worked with Flick during his final months at Bayern Munich before later joining the German coach’s staff at Barcelona. That experience gave the former midfielder the opportunity to see Flick’s methods both as a player and from a coaching perspective.

According to Thiago, one of Flick’s biggest strengths is his relationship with his players. He described the Barcelona manager as someone who is “so close to the players” and “so down-to-earth,” while also praising his ability to manage the team effectively.

Thiago also had plenty of praise for Guardiola, who managed him during his time at Barcelona. He described the Manchester City boss as “a genius” when it comes to tactics and communicating his ideas.

The former midfielder also pointed to Jurgen Klopp’s squad management and Luis Enrique’s ability to combine different coaching qualities as major influences on his own development.

Having worked under several elite managers, Thiago is now using those experiences as he works towards becoming a coach himself. His time with Flick has clearly played an important role in shaping the managerial philosophy he hopes to develop.
