The classic Italian sports car’s auction closed with a high bid of $366,000, falling short of the seller’s reserve. The car subsequently sold for $442,000 after another buyer made a higher offer.

According to Ford Authority, Farley’s highest bid reached $365,000, leaving him short of the amount eventually accepted by the seller. The Ford executive has previously sold collector cars through Bring a Trailer, including a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera and a 1937 Lincoln Model K coupe.

Identified by chassis number 03952, the car was built on May 26, 1972, and originally delivered to Bill Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada. According to its Bring a Trailer listing, it is one of approximately 2,900 E-series Dino 246 GTs produced through July 1974.

The car received recommissioning work in 2020 before returning to storage. It is believed to have remained registered in California from around 1975 through 2023, when the selling dealer acquired it. Subsequent work included a suspension overhaul in 2024 and the installation of an updated air-conditioning system in 2025.

In 2026, Classic Rescue Coachwork LLC in Oakdale, New York, stripped the body to bare metal and repainted it. The refresh also included refinishing certain panels, polishing stainless-steel trim, rechroming the door handles and windshield frames, and replacing window channels, felts, and body seals. The seats were refurbished as well.

The Dino is powered by a mid-mounted 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 featuring a 65-degree angle between its cylinder banks, dual overhead camshafts on each bank, and three two-barrel Weber carburetors. A five-speed manual transaxle sends power to the rear wheels.

Other features include four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, 14-inch Cromodora alloy wheels, power windows, air conditioning, and a Becker Europa II radio.

The five-digit odometer displays approximately 21,000 miles, although the listing does not establish this as the car’s verified total mileage. The sale also includes service records, a Dino Compendium report, a tool kit, and accessories.
