In a Facebook post, MCSO said Uniform Patrol Deputies and Investigators with MCSO Animal Services are investigating after discovering two kittens buried alive and two dead outside a home in the Hobe Sound Mobile Home Park.

At the time of the announcement, MCSO said deputies were actively digging up parts of the property. They said the homeowner, Chavez, admitted to burying at least four of her cast alive in her yard. She allegedly told police she believed they were demons. Following her admission, deputies began a rescue and search mission in Chavez’s backyard. Police were able to save two of the kittens. However, two others were found deceased.

Additionally, a fifth kitten remains missing, with authorities on the hunt. The two found alive were rushed to a veterinary emergency clinic. Veterinarians treated them for dehydration and monitored them. Police said, “If they survive, they’ll eventually be taken to the Humane Society and go through the adoption process.” Authorities also said there were other adult cats found at the home. They were examined by animal services and determined to be healthy.
