Fazl consults Opposition on emergency, governor’s rule in KP
ISLAMABAD – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman yesterday held consultations with Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Opposition Leader in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas over country’s political situation and imposition of emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting took place in the opposition chamber of the National Assembly, with Hussain Ahmad Yousafzai, spokesperson for the Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP), also in attendance. The consultations come amid growing political debate over the provincial government’s performance, the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the constitutional implications of imposing emergency measures or governor’s rule in the province. Speaking to the journalists after the meeting, Fazl dismissed speculation linking him to the alleged arrest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, responding with laughter when asked about the matter.
