Experts name the US stocks many people forget that could be about to soar – including a uranium company
By BENJAMIN CURRY, US DEPUTY CONSUMER EDITOR
Warren Buffett once told investors that they should ‘be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.’
Buying the shares of fantastic public companies that have temporarily fallen in price is the perfect way you can follow Buffett’s advice. But the truth is, not every company with a plummeting stock price is a good buy.
To help you find ‘cheap’ stocks that are truly good deals and worth your investing dollars, we consulted with market experts who have decades of experience uncovering bargains.
Below, we round up some of their best picks – and share the detailed reasoning behind their choices.
One important point to keep in mind is that in the stock market, ‘cheap’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘low price.’ Instead, think of these picks as great value on sale.
Whatever their current share prices may be, they offer double-digit percentage discounts from their recent highs.
Another key concept to remember: There are no guarantees when it comes to investing. The discounts discussed below represent an opportunity for investors to lock in attractive long-term returns – not make a quick buck.
Stock prices are dynamic and get pushed around by a whole host of factors from faraway wars, to changes in interest rates and even the president’s latest post on social media.
Play your cards right, and you can benefit when the near-term headwinds abate and the market falls back in love with these undervalued stocks.
Deckers Outdoor is a consumer products company famous for UGG boots, Hoka athletic shoes and Teva sandals
Cory Mitchell, who’s worked as a full-time investor and educator since 2005
Our first expert is Cory Mitchell, who’s worked as a full-time investor and educator since 2005. Over the years, Mitchell has honed his skills trading stocks, options and foreign currencies.
Mitchell’s first pick is Deckers Outdoor (DECK), a consumer products company famous for UGG boots, Hoka athletic shoes and Teva sandals.
Headquartered in Goleta, California, the stock is included in the benchmark S&P 500 stock index.
‘Shares of Deckers peaked in January 2025 and have fallen 60 percent since then, and are currently trading around $83 a share, making them a very cheap stock,’ Mitchell told the Daily Mail.
When it comes to finding undervalued stocks worth buying, Mitchell highlights the importance of a key metric: the forward price to earnings (P/E) ratio, which is the ratio of a stock’s current price to its expected earnings over the next 12 months.
He flagged that right now, Deckers has a forward P/E ratio of 11.7 – that’s a very cheap valuation, which makes it a solid choice in his analysis.
‘Right now, DECK’s forward P/E ratio is at its most attractive level we’ve seen in eight years,’ said Mitchell.
‘The stock price has been drifting sideways since early 2025 – even though the company’s earnings have been growing at more than 20 percent annually since then. Wall Street expects the growth to continue at a similar pace for the next five years.’
Stantec is an engineering, architecture and environmental consulting company that has helped engineers expand the Panama Canal and planned redevelopments of urban neighborhoods
Next up, Mitchell flags Stantec (STN), an engineering, architecture and environmental consulting company, as a great value that has strong growth potential.
This Canadian company, headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, has helped engineers expand the Panama Canal, planned redevelopments of urban neighborhoods and even designed Elon Musk’s unusual Tesla Diner in Hollywood.
Presently trading around $66 a share, Wall Street expects the company’s annual earnings to be almost $5 a share next year, which means that the stock offers a forward P/E ratio around 14.
Shares of Stantec have tumbled more than 40 percent over the last year, and are currently at their lowest level since late 2023.
Meanwhile, Wall Street analysts expect the company’s earnings to keep steadily rising at a clip of approximately 15 percent over the next five years.
Planet Fitness has more than 2,900 locations in all 50 states plus Canada, Mexico and Australia
Founded in 1992 in Dover, New Hampshire, affordable gym chain Planet Fitness (PLNT) has more than 2,900 locations in all 50 states plus Canada, Mexico and Australia.
The ‘no judgment zone’ fitness powerhouse offers memberships that start at $15 a month – well below major competitors – bringing people affordable workouts.
Right now, shares of PLNT are trading at their lowest levels in three years, and its all-important forward P/E ratio is 10.8 – its lowest level in a decade – suggesting this stock could be a great deal.
Planet Fitness has been steadily growing its profits and revenue since 2021, and Wall Street experts say it should continue growing earnings at a pace of about 30 percent a year over the next five years.
Trading around $48 a share, Mitchell believes PLNT is looking like a deal, especially since he flags that over the last six years the shares have bounced higher off this level and run up to around $100 multiple times since 2020.
Patrick Vishy is a behavioral finance expert and host of the 10-Minute Contrarian podcast, where he discusses investing strategy and money management and strives to get new investors to think differently from the crowd about their market moves.
‘We talk about great cheap stocks on literally every episode of my podcast,’ Vishy told the Daily Mail.
There are approximately 175 million pounds of uranium available versus 200 million pounds of demand in 2026.
Vishy highlighted Cameco Corp (CCJ) as an outstanding buy right now. Cameco is the biggest uranium mining company in the Western Hemisphere, and demand for its product – uranium is the key chemical element for nuclear power generation – is robust.
‘With energy independence and the hunt for new sources of electricity generation a major theme in the age of artificial intelligence, demand for nuclear power will likely surge over the next two decades,’ Vishy told us.
He said that there’s already a supply shortfall, with approximately 175 million pounds of available supply for 200 million pounds of demand in 2026, and the supply shortfall is only expected to get worse.
Shares of CCJ peaked in early 2026 at $134, and since then they have fallen to about $86, down about 36 percent.
The stock’s forward P/E ratio of 51 is a bit high compared with other equities on this list, but that’s lower than it’s been since 2024.
‘We have seen a pullback in price this year,’ said Vishy. ‘If you want a long-term buy and hold, this is ridiculously cheap when you consider the upside vs. downside.’
Coinbase (COIN) is an online platform for buying and selling cryptocurrencies and digital assets like bitcoin. In fact, it’s the largest US crypto exchange by trading volume and one of the biggest custodians of bitcoin in the world.
‘If classified as a brokerage, Coinbase would be the eighth largest in the world, and investors have not woken up to this yet,’ Vishy told us.
Coinbase is an online platform for buying and selling cryptocurrencies and digital assets like bitcoin
‘The cat is now completely out of the bag in terms of the entire financial world going digital, even institutions who did not want to make this change have been forced to capitulate,’ he said.
The company’s growing profile and position in the world of digital assets make it a great buy, according to Vishy.
For US markets, he calls it the key bridge between traditional markets and crypto. ‘Nobody else comes close,’ said Vishy.
The world of crypto trading is not just relatively new; it’s also notoriously volatile. For experts like Vishy and Mitchell, that makes the price-to-sales (P/S) ratio a better yardstick than P/E -and COIN’s P/S ratio is very favorable at 8.83 presently.
Another argument in its favor: Most US exchange-traded funds use Coinbase as their bitcoin custodian, which is a huge vote of confidence in the upstart crypto tech firm from established Wall Street giants, which operate the ETFs.
Shares of COIN peaked around $419 last summer, and they’ve fallen about 57 percent since then to around $179.
Investors should also understand that given its exposure to bitcoin, shares of COIN tend to track the price of the original cryptocurrency.
