A Bexar County detention deputy was fired after photos showed her posing with jail inmates and making an obscene gesture, KABB reported.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Karla Beltran was dismissed under probationary procedures Monday, Oct. 12, according to the station.

The photos show Beltran seated in front of a window overlooking an inmate holding area, with inmates posing on the other side. One image shows her raising her middle finger toward the camera. KABB reported that it was unclear who took the pictures or why they were made.

Beltran began working for the sheriff’s office July 1 and had been on the job for just over 100 days, the station reported.

Bexar County detention deputies and cadets serve a one-year probationary period. New hires who fail to meet conduct or performance standards can be dismissed immediately and cannot appeal the decision, according to KABB.
