B’Haram: Death May Be Attractive To Some People,Because They Have 7 Virgins Waiting For Them-Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that the belief that seven virgins are waiting for terrorists and bandits in heaven may be one of the reasons some young people find death attractive while engaging in violent activities.

Akpabio made the remark while reacting to the activities of terrorists and bandits who kill themselves in the belief that they will be rewarded with virgins in heaven.

Speaking during an interview on TV Platinum on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Senate President suggested that the promise of such a reward could influence some young people to embrace violent extremism and disregard the value of their lives.

According to him, the expectation of receiving seven virgins after death could make dying in the course of terrorist activities appear appealing to some individuals, despite the destruction and suffering their actions cause.

“Why the death may be attractive to to some young people, is because they have 7 virgins waiting for them,” Akpabio said.

The comment comes amid persistent security challenges in Nigeria, where terrorist groups and armed bandits have continued to threaten communities, kill residents and abduct people for ransom.

Nigeria has battled insurgency, particularly in the North-East, for years, with extremist groups carrying out attacks against civilians and security personnel. Banditry and mass kidnappings have also remained major concerns in several parts of the country.

The motivations behind violent extremism have been the subject of public debate, with issues such as radicalisation, poverty, recruitment networks and ideological indoctrination frequently discussed in efforts to address insecurity.
