Beyoncé’s daughter Rumi joins big sister Blue Ivy for emotional family outing

LEAVE A COMMENT Beyoncé's two daughters joined her for a particularly poignant family milestone earlier this week.

The singer, 45, stepped out on Tuesday, October 13 for the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, a rebranded version of a youth center with the same name, that was first established in 1999 using the earnings from the sales of Destiny's Child's debut single, 1997's "No, No, No."

The opening drew an audience from Beyoncé herself, joined by Kelly Rowland, also 45, Tina Knowles, 72, and Beyoncé's two daughters, Blue Ivy, 14, and Rumi, nine.

For nine-year-old Rumi, this was her first notable public appearance in several months, following her and Blue's trip to the Super Bowl with their dad Jay-Z in February.

The night was a particularly poignant one for Tina, who cried through her speech at the ceremony, flanked by her daughter on one side and her honorary daughter on the other.

Speaking at the St. John's Downtown Church, where the new housing development is located, Tina recalled bringing Beyoncé and her sister Solange Knowles here when they were younger to volunteer.

"Because of that, I have these beautiful young women that have hearts and empathy," she added. "And they give, and they work, and they do things to give back to the community. And I have this place to thank for that."

As the ceremony proceeded to the ribbon cutting, the "Crazy in Love" singer invited her daughters to join them on stage. Blue walked up in a BAPE jersey and jeans, paired with stiletto heels, while Rumi wore a black dress with a varsity jacket and sneakers.

The nine-year-old stood in front of her mother, and the Carter siblings took a pair of scissors each to officially cut the ribbon and open the institution, with Beyoncé helping Rumi through the moment.

As their website states: "Knowles-Rowland House consists of the adaptive reuse of the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, transforming it into permanent support housing for people who have experienced 'chronic homelessness.'"

The original Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth "experienced significant damage due to Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and a fire in 2021 and has since been primarily used for storage." The aim of the redevelopment is to "create 31 units of supportive housing, including 16 units designed with accommodations for those with mobility or sensory impairments."

"The project is sponsored by the Bread of Life, a well-respected non-profit affiliated with St. John's Downtown Church that focuses on issues of homelessness, health, and hunger relief. Residents will have access to a range of social services including case management, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, life skills training, and nutrition assistance through a partnership with Temenos Community Development Corporation, Bread of Life’s sister organization."
