Annoh-Dompreh Visits Nsawam Prison as Chairman Wontumi Serves Sentence

Nsawam-Adoagyiri Member of Parliament and Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has visited Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is reportedly serving a 20-year jail term.

During the visit, the legislator donated food items and essential supplies to support the welfare of inmates at the facility. The donation included rice, maize, gari, sugar, milk and bottled water.

The visit brought attention to the conditions and welfare of inmates, as well as the role public officials can play in supporting correctional facilities through humanitarian assistance.

Food and basic necessities remain important to the daily running of prisons, where authorities are responsible for providing meals and maintaining acceptable living conditions for people in custody. Donations from individuals and organisations can provide additional support, particularly when they include essential items used by inmates.

Annoh-Dompreh’s gesture was directed at the wider prison population rather than being limited to one individual. The supplies were intended to contribute to inmates’ basic needs and offer support to those serving sentences or otherwise being held at the facility.

The visit also comes amid public interest surrounding Chairman Wontumi, a prominent figure within the NPP. His reported imprisonment has drawn attention because of his political profile and position in the party.

However, the information provided about Annoh-Dompreh’s visit does not specify whether he held a private meeting with Wontumi or discussed his case during the visit.

It also does not indicate the quantity or financial value of the donated supplies.

The visit highlights the importance of attention to inmate welfare, with essential food supplies forming part of efforts to support people living within correctional facilities.
