Amaechi: I Was A Lawyer Before Him For Many Years, I’m A Senior Member Of The Bar- Nyesom Wike
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has defended his legal experience while criticising former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, saying he became a lawyer many years before him.
In a video shared by News Central TV, Wike made the statement during his monthly media parley, where he accused Amaechi, an ADC vice-presidential candidate, of taking actions that could make people from the South-South region refuse to support him politically.
Responding to comments about their shared legal profession, Wike said he had been a lawyer for many years before Amaechi and described himself as a senior member of the Nigerian Bar.
He also criticised Amaechi for spending several years in public office while studying law, questioning why he continued his legal studies during his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor and minister.
Wike further accused Amaechi of boasting about his role in the campaign that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.
According to Wike, Jonathan is from the South-South region, and Amaechi’s alleged pride in helping remove him from office could upset people from the region.
The FCT minister also referred to Amaechi’s claim about his role in the removal of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, who is also from the South-South.
Wike argued that these actions could affect how people in the region view Amaechi and determine whether they support him politically.
In his words, “I’m a lawyer before him for many years, so don’t talk about that one. I’m a senior member of the bar.”
