Air India Frankfurt-Delhi Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Jaipur After Reported Squawk 7500 Alert

An Air India flight operating from Frankfurt to Delhi made an emergency landing in Jaipur on Wednesday after reportedly transmitting Squawk 7500, the international transponder code associated with a hijacking or unlawful interference with an aircraft.

According to multiple reports, the alert was received by Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC), following which the aircraft landed safely in Jaipur. Details about what triggered the alert, the circumstances surrounding the diversion and the status of the passengers were not immediately available.

Squawk 7500 is a globally recognised aviation emergency code that allows pilots to discreetly alert air traffic control to a suspected hijacking or unlawful interference. The reported transmission raised concerns among passengers on board, according to accounts cited in reports.

The incident comes amid continuing disruptions to Indian airlines’ operations in parts of West Asia because of heightened security concerns.

Air India Express has suspended flights to and from Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh until October 17, citing the evolving security situation in the region. The airline said affected passengers could opt for complimentary rescheduling or a full refund in case of cancellation.

ā€œIn view of the evolving situation in the region, we have cancelled flights to and from Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh until 17 October. Affected guests are being offered complimentary rescheduling or a full refund on cancellation. We continue to monitor the situation closely,ā€ an Air India Express spokesperson said.

Air India had also extended the suspension of its flights to and from Riyadh until October 15 following reported attacks and security threats involving the Saudi capital’s airport.

Other Indian carriers, including IndiGo and Akasa Air, have also adjusted services to affected destinations. IndiGo extended the cancellation of flights to Riyadh and Dammam until October 15.

The disruptions follow escalating regional tensions and reported drone and missile strikes targeting infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Airlines have been reviewing their schedules as security conditions continue to evolve.

The circumstances behind the reported Squawk 7500 alert on the Frankfurt-Delhi flight remained unclear at the time of publication.
