Aboagye Miracles Aboagye Drops Big Blow To NDC

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director Dennis Miracles Aboagye has challenged suggestions that Emelia Afi Agbenyo’s links to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged only after the party chose Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as its running mate.

According to Aboagye, Agbenyo’s political involvement was already evident during her years at the University of Ghana, where she took part in student leadership activities.

In an interview with Joy News, he said Agbenyo was a student at the university from 2004 to 2008 and was known among students for her support for the NDC.

He cited her election as Secretary of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in 2008 as an example of her involvement in campus politics. He also claimed that the SRC president at the time was affiliated with the NPP.

Aboagye disclosed that he attended the same university between 2003 and 2007, arguing that Agbenyo’s participation in student governance made her political leanings familiar to members of the university community.

He consequently rejected the suggestion that her association with the NDC began only after the party nominated Opoku-Agyemang as its vice-presidential candidate.

The NPP communications director criticised that account of events, arguing that it failed to acknowledge Agbenyo’s earlier political activities.

He maintained that her history in student politics should be considered in discussions about her political background, particularly following her appointment as a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).

“If the NDC comes to tell you in 2026 that she is a consultant and an advocate and that she came to join them when the female vice president was nominated, that is the biggest insult to the intelligence of the people of this country,” Aboagye stated.

His remarks come amid continuing public and political discussions about Agbenyo’s appointment to the EC, with attention focused on her political history and concerns about the commission’s independence and perceived neutrality.

The claims regarding Agbenyo’s past political affiliation, as presented by Aboagye, have been attributed to him and were not independently established in the account provided.
