A luxury motorhome is the unlikely new status symbol for celebrities – from Stacey Solomon’s £70,000 campervan to Carol Vorderman’s £40,000 ‘VordersVan’. But whose could do with an urgent makeover?

By RUTH STAINER, REPORTER Updated: 15:08 14 Oct 2026

Private jets and superyachts are go-to celebrity status symbols, but motorhomes are fast becoming the pinnacle of travelling in style.

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash own a £70,000 campervan for their family-of-seven, while Carol Volderman spent more than £50,000 transforming her custom-designed motorhome, dubbed the ‘VordersVan’.

Sue and Noel Radford also own a £40,000 motorhome that boasts three double beds, a bathroom, kitchen and upper sleeping area. The couple have described the van as the ‘best thing’ they ever purchased.

According to interiors expert Jordana Ahkenazi, celebrities are investing in motorhomes due to the remarkable ‘freedom and spontaneity’ they provide.

She told the Daily Mail: ‘We’ve got private jets for the sky, superyachts for the water and now these incredible motorhomes for the road. It’s essentially road-tripping in absolute style!

‘I can see why this would appeal to celebrities, particularly those travelling with children. It’s private, it’s fun and it’s an adventure. You can choose to sleep in the motorhome, stay at a beautiful campsite or use it to travel between luxury hotels.

‘For me, what makes a motorhome genuinely sophisticated is clever space planning. Beautiful finishes are one thing, but ultimately you’re still working within a relatively confined space.’

In 2024, Stacey and Joe enjoyed a family road trip to Scotland in their £70,000 campervan.

The custom-built VW T6 van comes complete with a bunk bed, small dining area and an extra bed above the driver’s seat, as well as a microwave, a wardrobe, pop-up roof conversion, leather seats and plenty of storage.

However, the van is also remarkably big – and the couple came into difficulty on their trip when Joe got their campervan stuck at a McDonald’s drive-thru in the Highlands.

In a video with Stacey, 34, speaking to the camera, she said Joe, 42, had told her that the branch was incredibly busy and McDonald’s staff had ‘forgotten’ the chips for her meal.

However, she then revealed that ‘around 50 people’ had got in touch to say they had seen Joe the previous night in the campervan at the drive-thru – and he had instead got stuck in the entrance because the van was too tall.

According to Jordana, while Stacey and Joe’s motorhome is ‘nice’, it is ‘more of a comfortable, family-friendly caravan than a luxury motorhome’.

She added: ‘The neutral colours are pleasant, and I like the little personal touches that make it feel homely, but there’s nothing particularly luxurious about the finishes or overall design.

‘The spaces look quite tight, and I imagine travelling with two adults and a couple of children could start to feel rather cramped, particularly over an extended period. There’s only so much clever space planning can achieve when you’re working within a relatively small footprint.

‘Personally, this isn’t somewhere I’d want to spend days or weeks on end. I’d be much happier using it for short trips or travelling between hotels.’

In 2021, former Countdown star Carol Vorderman purchased a £40,000 campervan with hopes of undergoing a full renovation – including a toilet or shower room, kitchen and bedroom area.

Sharing the journey with her more than 9,000 followers on an Instagram page under the handle @vordervan, Carol spent around £50,000 renovating the MAN TGE / 4×4 van in collaboration with Van Life Builds.

According to Jordana, Carol’s van lacks vastly in size and luxury.

She explained: ‘It’s certainly not superyacht or private jet level luxury, is it? At the end of the day, it’s still a converted van!

‘Personally, I’d much rather be on a beautiful yacht or travelling in a private jet. This isn’t really my idea of luxury. It’s more my idea of roughing it a little, albeit in a relatively stylish way.

‘I can absolutely see the appeal for someone who loves camping, road trips and getting out into nature. There’s a real sense of adventure to it, and that’s probably where its charm lies.

‘But when I think of a luxury motorhome, I’m imagining beautifully designed interiors, spacious seating, proper bathrooms and showers, sophisticated lighting, lovely kitchens and perhaps even a wine fridge or bar.’

In August, Molly Mae and Tommy Fury purchased an £87,000 Elddis Avalon 255 campervan with the intent of using it for family holidays around the UK.

Speaking to Eddie Hall on his podcast , The Good, The Bad & The Beast in July, Tommy said: ‘I’ve just bought – and it’s coming in two weeks – a massive RV type thing.

‘I just said to myself, she (Bambi) can’t take business class flights every time, that ain’t the real world. I want her to know the meaning of normal, which is, you know, a nice camping holiday, driving to the lake.’

Yet Molly Mae later admitted that the trip the family took to the isle of Man in the van the following month had not been plain sailing – with delays leaving Bambi ‘overtired and overstimulated’.

‘Bear in mind this motorhome of Tommy’s is his pride and joy, he’s obsessed with it…I kid you not, the next day he was like ‘I’m selling it, the minute we get home I’m putting it up for sale, I hate this motorhome,’ she said.

In Jordana’s view, Molly Mae’s motorhome ‘strikes me as much more of a traditional caravan or trailer-style motorhome than a luxury celebrity residence on wheels’.

She added: ‘I do like the large skylight above the driving area, which brings in plenty of natural light, and the neutral upholstery gives it a pleasant, comfortable feel.

‘However, from what we can see, the overall design looks fairly standard rather than particularly sophisticated or bespoke.

‘From these photographs, Molly-Mae’s looks perfectly comfortable and practical, but it doesn’t particularly scream luxury to me. I’d still be looking forward to a lovely hotel at the end of the journey!’

Sue and Noel Radford, stars of Channel 5’s 22 Kids and Counting, are proud owners of a large motorhome that is believed to cost between £30,000 and £40,000.

The large van, which they have often used for UK minibreaks and family holidays, contains a fully-stocked kitchen, large seating area, shower room and multiple beds.

To make it feel more homely, the family also added a sofa and fairy lights to an outdoor tent area that helps create more space.

In Jordana’s view, this motorhome is ‘clearly designed with family travel in mind’ and is ‘somewhere you could comfortably spend a little longer on the road’.

She added: ‘What I particularly like is how they’ve made use of the space. There’s a proper kitchenette, dining area, television and separate sleeping areas, including that clever overhead bed with its little ladder.

‘It’s a practical layout that allows the family to eat, relax and sleep without everything having to happen in one space.

‘The outdoor awning is another great feature, effectively extending the living area outside and giving everyone a little more breathing room, particularly when travelling with children.

‘From an interior design perspective, the finishes are fairly traditional, with wood-effect cabinetry and practical furnishings rather than anything particularly bespoke or luxurious.

‘However, I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. Sometimes functionality and clever space planning are far more important than expensive finishes, especially in a motorhome.’

Jordana noted that while it may not fall in the ‘super-luxury category’, this motorhome is ‘comfortable, practical and makes good use of its footprint’.

Former EastEnders star Shane Richie’s luxurious £138,000 motorhome is far from basic – with a private bathroom suite, large bedroom area and fully stocked kitchen.

Other unusual amenities in the Carthago C-Line Motorhome include underfloor heating and drop-down beds to maximise space.

Jordana described Shane’s motorhome as ‘more substantial and sophisticated than some of the smaller campervans we’ve looked at’.

‘This is much closer to what I’d expect from a proper touring motorhome,’ she added.

‘I actually quite like the interior finishes. The warm wood-effect cabinetry, neutral colour palette, curved vanity unit and integrated lighting give it a more polished, contemporary feel.

‘Having a proper vanity, basin, mirror and storage is a definite improvement on some of the more basic facilities we’ve seen. However, looking at how close everything is to the sleeping area, it still feels quite tight.

‘I imagine getting ready in the morning or moving around with another person could be a little challenging!’

Jordana noted that the ‘lighting and finishes elevate it beyond the traditional caravan look’ and that it is a ‘step up in terms of comfort and interior design’.

Annabel Croft’s campervan, which she lovingly named Vannabel, underwent a full transformation in 2021 – with the tennis player creating a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room space.

The Mercedes Sprinter van was purchased for £13,500 from a DVP scrap yard and cost £13,000 to renovate.

As an avid foodie, Annabel created a kitchen area with a view, and now frequently uses the campervan on weekends away and even took it to Glastonbury Festival.

However, while Jordana praises Annabel’s campervan as ‘charming’, with elegant ‘white cabinetry, natural timber finishes and striped upholstery’, she described it as far from luxurious.

She said: ‘At the end of the day, it’s a converted van with a few extra comforts. The dining area is tiny, with very limited seating around a small table, and the kitchen is incredibly compact.

‘You’d probably find yourself putting folding chairs outside just to have somewhere comfortable to sit and relax.

‘Although the sleeping area looks quite cosy, I imagine the space would feel claustrophobic and cluttered fairly quickly, particularly once you’ve got luggage, clothes and everyday belongings inside. There’s really nowhere to spread out.

‘For me, this is essentially camping with a few home comforts. It’s a nicely styled van, but it certainly doesn’t scream luxury in any way, shape or form. Personally, I think I’d find it far too cramped for anything more than a short adventure.’

Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies’ £15,000 motorhome shows how it is possible to craft the campervan of your dreams on a budget.

Custom-crafted by her father, the motorhome features a daytime area, swiveling front seats and a bench seat that slides out to become a double bed or dining space.

Sara and her family frequently use the motorhome to enjoy UK weekends away, and in 2023 she proudly showcased the vehicle during an episode of Channel 5’s Multi Million Pound Motorhomes.

In Jordana’s view, this campervan is ‘probably one of the most basic we’ve seen so far in terms of interior design and luxury’.

She added: ‘To me, this is simply a converted van with some additional seating, a little table and a compact kitchen area. There’s really nothing here that screams luxury!

‘The grey upholstered seating, timber-effect finishes and small dining table are perfectly functional, but there’s nothing particularly sophisticated or stylish about them.

‘I can’t see any evidence of a proper bathroom, shower or particularly luxurious facilities in these photographs. There may be a small fridge, running water or other practical features tucked away, but certainly nothing visible that suggests the sort of creature comforts I’d associate with a high-end motorhome.

‘I think this is very much about the outdoor experience rather than the accommodation itself.

‘It’s absolutely fine for someone who enjoys camping and the simplicity of life on the road, but from an interior designer’s perspective, there’s very little here to get excited about. This is practical, fairly basic campervan living, not luxury travel.’
