‘A cut above all other teams’ — Ivan Rakitic backs Barcelona for UCL success

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday October 14, 2026, former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has backed Hansi Flick’s side to win the Champions League, describing the Catalan giants as “a cut above all other teams” following their impressive start to the season.

Barcelona strengthened their European ambitions with a 4-1 comeback victory over Galatasaray after conceding the opening goal. The result extended their winning run to 10 consecutive matches and highlighted their attacking quality.

Speaking to COPE, Rakitic praised Barcelona’s performances and believes they will be difficult to stop if they maintain their current level.

The former Croatia international said that if Flick’s team “carry on in this vein, I think it’s going to be very difficult to beat Barça.”

However, Rakitic also warned that Barcelona must remain defensively disciplined if they want to win the Champions League. He stressed that even the smallest mistake can be punished against Europe’s strongest teams.

Barcelona have not won the competition for more than 11 seasons, and Flick will be hoping to end that long wait by turning the team’s impressive form into European success.

Rakitic also recalled his time at Barcelona, explaining how the squad prioritised the Champions League even after winning domestic trophies.

“My first two titles were the Copa del Rey and then La Liga, which we didn’t celebrate at all, because we were waiting for the Champions League final. This year, it’s their turn,” he said.

His comments reflect the growing belief that Barcelona have the quality to challenge for Europe’s biggest prize, although maintaining their consistency and avoiding costly mistakes will be crucial to their chances.
