Zelensky says he received ‘no warning’ about Russian attack: Trump’s new press secretary refuses to deny US has stopped sharing intel

Ukraine received ‘no warning’ from allies of a Russian ballistic missile strike sparking fears Donald Trump cut vital intelligence sharing over his row with Volodymyr Zelensky.
Moscow blitzed the country once more last night with drone and rocket attacks that left four dead and dozens injured in Kharkiv while five ballistic missiles struck Kyiv.
President Zelensky said there ‘was no warning from our partners’ over the strikes on the capital in a statement on X.
He said: ‘Intelligence data about the launches of Russian ballistic missiles help save people’s lives, and this is one of the most critical issues.
‘When there is a warning, it is precisely this that helps prevent killings.’
New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia refused to deny that the US had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine in her first briefing.
Asked whether Washington had halted the flow of intelligence to Kyiv, Ms Zacharia responded: ‘I’ll have to get back to you on that.’
Mr Zelensky did not single out America or Mr Trump, but the US usually alerts Kyiv when the ballistic missiles are launched and the timing is conspicuous.
The US President is pressuring Kyiv to make concessions to Moscow and has reportedly threatened to cut intelligence.
Last week Mr Trump announced a deal with Vladimir Putin to buy hundreds of thousands of tonnes of diesel to try and quell spiralling fuel prices ahead of next month’s midterm elections.
He then declared it is ‘time for Ukraine to get a new President’ after Mr Zelensky criticised the deal.
Mr Zelensky promised to heed Mr Trump’s demand for an ‘energy ceasefire’ if Moscow did so. But the Kremlin has not responded publicly and instead stepped up attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Despite this, there are now fears Washington may have cut vital intelligence on the incoming ballistic missiles to further pressure Kyiv.
Air raid sirens only sounded after five explosions had already shaken the Ukrainian capital overnight on Monday.
It came amid a deadly onslaught of more than a hundred different weapons including jet-powered drones and loitering munitions.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha today insisted US intelligence is still flowing to Kyiv and suggested the delay may have been caused by the Russian weaponry.
He told the Warsaw Security Forum: ‘Yes, we continue this co-operation.
‘And also it is true that in yesterday night’s attack there was a delay, but it is because of the special type of weaponry that was used by the Russian side.’
The five Russian Iskander-type ballistic missiles were fired from the Bryansk region of Russia, which borders Ukraine.
Given the speed they travel at and the proximity to Kyiv they sometimes hit without warning.
But Mr Zelensky specifically called out a lack of warning from allies as he told of the devastation of another night of brutal attacks.
He also reiterated that Ukraine ‘has not carried out strikes on Russian oil refineries or the energy sector in general’ since President Trump announced an energy ceasefire on Sunday.
Mr Zelensky added: ‘But Russia did not heed the American President. During this time, the Russians have attacked both our energy facilities and our critical infrastructure, sending absolutely clear signals that they have no intention of refraining from strikes on Ukraine.’
Mr Zelensky said that ‘wars end when the aggressor realises that it cannot prolong the war’ and celebrated ‘global pressure’ for ‘bringing peace closer’.
Pointedly, he added: ‘But direct or indirect support for Russia, slowing down assistance to Ukraine, and making it harder to protect lives against ballistic missiles will certainly not help bring peace.’
