The gogos alleged that South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has been deducting at least R200 from their grant money each month without their consent, knowledge and agreement.
The gogos from Winterveld in Tshwane alleged that their grant money was deducted from August to October 2026.
“We want our refunds. Why should Sassa do that to us? R200 is a lot of money to us. Mind you, we are pensioners,” said the pensioners.
Gogo Sibongile Riba (70) told Daily Sun that young women visited them at their gym club called Wise Fit Fabulous Elders in Winterveld with another gogo, Margaret Kgolo, from their kasi around July 2026.
She said that these young women promised them food parcels, tracksuits, and vouchers.
“I even asked them if they were not scammers, and they said not at all.
“They registered at least 30 of us. They registered us using our IDs.
“At the end of August, when we were waiting for our parcels, we were shocked that R200 each was deducted from our grant.
“We didn’t agree with these young women. They even took us photos and our contacts,” she said.
Sibongile said that they believed them because they looked like good people.
According to gogo Sibongile, many other pensioners are complaining about the same problem.
“We called the gogo who was with them, and she told us that she doesn’t have their contacts. When we tried to check where they were from, they were from a policy company that we don’t know of. Strangely, we have our policies which deduct money every month.”
“But this policy is very strange because the money isn’t reflecting in our bank statements.
“When our Sassa money is paid into our bank accounts, it’s already deducted by Sassa, which is our serious worry to us,” claimed gogo Sibongile.
“So far, we’ve lost R600 each. We need our money back,” she said.

Gogo Princess Mnguni (62) said: “We are hurt. We are stressed. We want Sassa to cancel these deductions and refund us.”
Gogo Ntombi Mokoena (74) said: “We are heartbroken. My kids are blaming me. They are saying I’m too forward and now I’m facing a problem. We won’t give strangers our ID numbers and contacts anymore.”
DA Tshwane proportional councillor Thabisile Vilakazi said: “This is heartbreaking. These are pensioners and are the most vulnerable people in the community.
“When you promise them food parcels, they’ll believe you. To me, this is a scam. I want to see these pensioners being helped. We want Sassa to explain and investigate the matter.”
She promised to continue helping the pensioners.
Kgolo, the said gogo who introduced the young women to others, said that she’s also a victim and the young women took advantage of pensioners.
Sassa general manager Dr Paseka Letsatsi said: “The affected clients were contacted and advised that the matter will be referred to Qlink, which is an intermediary, to assist in the cancellation and possible refund of the policy deductions.”
