Alidu Issah was named Man of the Match after scoring twice in Ghana’s 3-1 victory over Benin in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

The striker gave the Black Starlets a dream start, scoring twice in the opening eight minutes to put coach Kassim Ocansey’s side in control of the Group A encounter.

Issah opened the scoring in the fourth minute before doubling Ghana’s advantage four minutes later with another finish, underlining his importance to the team’s attacking display.

However, Ghana conceded in the 31st minute as Benin reduced the deficit to 2-1, giving the opposition renewed hope of mounting a comeback.

The Black Starlets maintained their composure after the break despite pressure from the Beninese side. Ocansey introduced Benedict Tano, Prince Apam, Stephen Gyasi, Nii Odoi Tawiah and Daniel Owusu as Ghana sought to strengthen their performance.

The changes helped Ghana maintain their advantage before Tawiah sealed the victory in the 81st minute. Apam turned away from his marker before setting up Tawiah, who finished clinically to restore Ghana’s two-goal lead.

Issah’s brace earned him individual recognition, while Ghana’s third goal ensured they secured all three points from the encounter.

The victory also confirmed the Black Starlets’ qualification for the semi-finals with a game to spare, extending their impressive start to the competition.

Ghana will face hosts Burkina Faso in their final Group A fixture on Friday, October 16, as they look to maintain their winning momentum ahead of the knockout stage.
