Update: Man Who Died After Falling From Six Flags Rollercoaster Beat Cancer And Also Survived A Car Fire With His Daughter Just Three Weeks Ago

A family friend remembers Hassan Kariem, an Atlanta Public Schools educator, as a fighter after he died in a fall from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Kariem, 42, was reportedly ejected from the Goliath ride Monday. Police said he fell, struck several other riders, and landed beneath the coaster. Four people were taken to the hospital.

Family friend Elicia Day said Kariem had survived cancer, a serious case of COVID-19, and a car fire several weeks earlier in which he and his daughter escaped.

“We’re absolutely devastated by this loss,” Day said. “To lose him in this manner, this way, it is beyond words can even express.”

Day called for a full investigation and answers about how the incident happened.

The ride was shut down, and riders were evacuated. Six Flags Over Georgia is closed for its offseason schedule and is expected to reopen Friday.
