Tiwa Savage Says Fear for Her Son Deepened Pain of Private Video Leak

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has spoken about the distress caused by the release of her private video in 2021, saying her greatest concern was that her son, Jamil, might eventually encounter it.

The remarks, reported as early as April 2024, highlighted the personal impact of the incident beyond the public attention it attracted. Savage reportedly said she sought help from an IT specialist to remove the footage from circulation, although claims that it was erased from every device and online platform have not been independently established.

The singer first publicly discussed the matter during an interview with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1 in October 2021, when she disclosed that someone was attempting to blackmail her over an intimate recording. The episode came during a difficult year in which she had also lost her father and a close friend.

In a subsequent interview on The Breakfast Club, Savage alleged that her former boyfriend’s initial explanation that the recording had been shared accidentally did not reflect what she later learned. According to her account, its exposure was connected to a bet involving him and his friends.

She described the alleged betrayal as traumatic and rejected suggestions that she had arranged the leak for publicity. Savage also said her initial use of humor to address the controversy masked emotional pain she had not fully processed.

Returning to Martinez’s program in an interview published in October 2025, Savage explained that the full emotional weight of the experience emerged years later. She spoke about difficulties with trust and the importance of finding a therapist with whom she felt comfortable.

Therapy, she said, helped her work through grief, establish personal boundaries and begin addressing the lasting effects of the experience.
