Tinubu Has Never For Once Castigated Or Condemned The Leadership Of President Buhari–Haruna

A report from The Sun on Monday, October 12, 2026, highlights that Mohammed Sani Haruna, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support for northern politicians aspiring to the presidency in Nigeria.

Haruna expressed these views at a press conference in Kaduna, where the state APC chapter announced its plans to officially launch Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign on October 24, 2026.

He asserted that Tinubu’s political history reflects his commitment to backing presidential candidates from northern Nigeria, regardless of their party affiliations or goals.

Haruna traced Tinubu’s connections with northern political figures back to the early 1990s when he collaborated with the People’s Front, a political group led by the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, which eventually became associated with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He noted that Tinubu endorsed Yar’Adua during the SDP primaries for the presidency in 1992, and he also pointed out that other northern politicians, such as former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former presidential aspirant Nuhu Ribadu, received Tinubu’s support in their campaigns in 2007 and 2011, respectively.

The APC spokesperson mentioned that Tinubu played a crucial role in providing political backing and opportunities that allowed these politicians to chase their aspirations to lead the nation.

Additionally, Haruna emphasized Tinubu’s pivotal role, along with other key political figures who founded the APC, in contributing to Muhammadu Buhari’s successful presidential campaign in 2015, especially considering Buhari’s earlier unsuccessful attempts in 2003, 2007, and 2011.

He further asserted that throughout Buhari’s eight-year presidency, Tinubu remained supportive, even in the face of public criticism from some northern leaders regarding Buhari’s administration.

Haruna stated, “It is on record that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of the few Nigerians in living memory who has shown and declared support, both in action and in spirit, for northern Nigeria’s aspiration to lead Nigeria.” He also remarked, “During those eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari, many northerners found reasons to criticize him, but Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu never once condemned President Buhari’s leadership.”
