Send Her Back To NDC Headquarters — NPP Man Says New EC Deputy Is A Die-Hard NDC Footsoldier
The fight over the new Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission is getting hotter.
NPP Communications Team Member, Kwesi Botchway Jnr. Esq., has launched a strong attack on Emelia Affi Agbenyo, saying she has no business being at the Electoral Commission.
According to him, Emelia Affi Agbenyo will be treated as a footsoldier.
He described her as a die-hard NDC loyalist, adding that her rightful office is at the NDC headquarters, not the Electoral Commission.
His comments come after President John Dramani Mahama swore in Emelia Affi Agbenyo and Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah as Deputy Chairpersons of the EC on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Many in the NPP have questioned Emelia’s neutrality, pointing to her past role as the NDC’s Spokesperson on Governance and her active involvement in the party’s 2024 campaign.
For Kwesi Botchway Jnr., the issue is about trust and credibility. He believes the Electoral Commission must be seen as independent, and putting a known party loyalist there destroys public confidence.
He argues that Ghana’s democracy works only when the referee is neutral. If the referee is seen as a player for one team, the game is already spoiled.
The NDC government says Emelia is qualified, professional, and will be impartial. But for critics like Botchway, her political colours are too loud to ignore.
He says as long as she is at the EC, the NPP will not see her as a neutral electoral official, but as an NDC footsoldier sitting at the EC.
