Scotland County inmate charged in deadly jail stabbing

SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – An inmate is now facing more charges after a deadly stabbing in North Carolina.

The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office said that on Sept. 17 deputies were called to the Scotland Correctional Institution for a stabbing.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Brian Alexander.

After an investigation, Devaunte Barriet was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon in a prison.

The sheriff’s office says that Barriet was transferred to another facility and awaits his next court date.
