LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated a network of 65 mobile health units to provide medical services to industrial workers and their families at workplaces and doorsteps, with the initial rollout covering Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura and targeting more than 4.6 million people.

The government plans to extend the service to 12 more districts by March 2027, including Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Rawalpindi.

The motorcycle and scooter teams will provide basic medical assistance, first aid, essential medicines and health awareness services to workers and their families, bringing healthcare closer to industrial establishments and residential areas.
The mobile hospitals will offer outpatient services, diagnostic facilities, X-rays, ultrasound examinations and basic laboratory tests. Their medical teams will include doctors, female doctors, radiologists, nurses and laboratory and X-ray technicians. The mobile clinics will also provide telemedicine facilities, while dedicated dental units will conduct examinations and offer treatment.

During her visit to Nawaz Sharif Social Security Hospital, the chief minister inspected the mobile hospitals, dental unit, motorcycles and scooters and received a briefing on the availability of medicines and medical equipment. She also visited the outpatient department and the Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Cardiac Centre, where she interacted with patients and inquired about their health.
Officials also briefed her on a mobile screening initiative for rheumatic heart disease, which will cover 29,845 factories, industrial establishments and other workplaces in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Kasur. The programme will also screen around 54,000 children enrolled in workers’ welfare schools across Punjab for heart conditions. Under the initiative, field operations of all mobile health units will be linked to a digital hub at the headquarters of the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI), enabling real-time monitoring of their routes and activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz said the province’s 24 social security hospitals were providing treatment and medicines to more than 10 million industrial workers and their family members. The mobile health service would help ensure early diagnosis and treatment while reducing the burden on hospitals, she added.
She said 250 medical outlets operating under PESSI would also provide healthcare services to workers across the province.
The chief minister said the programme was intended to improve access to quality healthcare for registered workers at their workplaces and make medical services more accessible to their families near their homes.
