President Mahama Shócks Ghanaians As He Discredits Parliament From Holding The Peace Of The Nation
President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised the role of prayer and religious faith in sustaining Ghana’s peace, saying the country’s stability cannot be attributed to political leadership alone.
Addressing participants at the National Day of Prayer held at Independence Square, Mahama explained that Ghana’s continued unity amid economic hardships and political disagreements demonstrates the importance of faith in national life.
He praised religious leaders for consistently praying for the country, describing their spiritual support as an important contribution to Ghana’s progress.
According to him, while politicians engage in public debates, religious leaders continue to seek divine wisdom and blessings for the nation.
The President also called on political leaders to avoid actions that deepen divisions. He stressed that humility, honesty and a commitment to serving the public should guide leadership, warning that the absence of strong moral principles could endanger the country’s unity.
Mahama urged emerging political leaders to embrace selflessness and make prayer an important part of their commitment to national development.
He noted that Ghana must actively protect its peace, particularly as other countries in the West African region face conflicts and political instability.
He maintained that sustained peace requires constructive dialogue, cooperation and a willingness among citizens to put national interests first.
During the event, which brought together religious figures, public officials, students and civil society members, Mahama proposed dedicating one week each year to national fasting and prayer.
He said the initiative would provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to express gratitude and seek divine guidance for continued peace and prosperity.
The President concluded by encouraging citizens to preserve the country’s unity and remain committed to praying for Ghana’s continued progress.
