Political Optics: Mahama Directs EC Boss Jean Mensa During Jubilee House Photoshoot

President John Dramani Mahama was captured in a widely circulated video directing Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa, to change her standing position during an official photography session at Jubilee House in Accra. According to political event reports and video disclosures published by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the incident occurred shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of two new Deputy Chairpersons of the Commission.

The event marked the official induction of Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Dr. Joseph Kwaku Asamoah into their respective offices as Deputy EC Chairpersons. During the ensuing official group photograph involving the President, the Vice President, and the newly sworn-in commissioners, Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa was invited to join the podium for the portrait.

Upon mounting the stage, Jean Mensa initially positioned herself toward the President’s left side. However, President Mahama gestured and politely directed her to move to his right, positioning her closer to the leadership team. Following a brief readjustment, the EC Chairperson complied with the President’s directive, setting the stage for a warm and relaxed atmosphere during the remainder of the ceremony.

Journalists and presidential correspondents covering the event at Jubilee House noted that subsequent group photographs with family members of the newly inducted commissioners saw the EC Chairperson positioned closer to the center. Observers and political analysts remarked that the lighthearted protocol interaction underscored mutual institutional respect and cordial state relations between the executive arm of government and the independent electoral body.
