Police Reportedly Arrest Rochas Okorocha At Abuja Hotel, Reasons For His Arrest Emerge
According to Vanguard News reports, Okorocha was reportedly apprehended on Monday night at REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja, following an ongoing police investigation into alleged offences connected to disputed All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election documents.
According to a report by The Sun, the arrest followed the former governor’s alleged failure to honour repeated police invitations, which reportedly led to the issuance of a bench warrant by a court.
Reports indicate that Okorocha was initially invited to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on September 2, 2026. However, the meeting was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers, but he allegedly failed to attend on the rescheduled date.
The development comes amid an earlier denial by Okorocha that any court order had been issued for his arrest over the allegations.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, the former governor rejected reports of a court order and accused the Imo State Government of being behind what he described as false news.
Okorocha reportedly challenged those circulating the story to produce the alleged court order within 48 hours or retract the claims, threatening legal action against those responsible.
Earlier reports had claimed that a Senior Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja issued bench warrants against Okorocha and former Senator Ifeanyi Araraume over allegations connected to disputed APC primary election documents.
Two other individuals, Timothy Ama Chuks and Amen Okorocha, were also reportedly named in the warrants.
The warrants were said to have been issued on September 9, 2026, by Senior Magistrate Court 3 in Jiwa, Abuja, in cases numbered CR/M/JW/084/2026 and CR/M/JW/085/2026.
According to the reported court documents, the proceedings were instituted in the name of the Inspector-General of Police, with the warrants authorising police officers across the country to arrest the named individuals and bring them before the court.
However, Okorocha has continued to dispute the reports surrounding the alleged court order, describing them as false and misleading.
He also reportedly accused Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, a media aide to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, of being among the first people to circulate the story before it spread through other government aides and media organisations.
As of the time of the report, the allegations remained contested, with Okorocha denying the claims surrounding the purported arrest warrant.
