Photos Emerge Of Fake Catholic Priest Arrested While Leading Church Services In Lodwar

Photos have emerged of a fake Catholic priest who was arrested after allegedly posing as a legitimate cleric and conducting religious services in several churches within the Lodwar Diocese.

A man identified as Jones Bogonko Onchonga has been arrested after allegedly using forged church documents to present himself as a Catholic priest.

The suspect, who reportedly comes from Kisii County, is married and a father of two.According to the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar, Onchonga managed to conduct several Mass services without approval from the diocesan leadership.

During the services, he allegedly administered sacraments to worshippers and collected tithes and offerings.

The Diocese said the suspect had led Mass at St Augustine Cathedral Church in Kalokol, St Mary’s Lodaraja Church and St Thomas Chapel in Lodwar.

His activities reportedly continued for some time before church officials established that he was not a recognised Catholic priest.

The matter became particularly concerning when Onchonga was identified as a fake cleric while participating in a Mass service alongside the Bishop of Lodwar, Monsignor John Minda.

His presence at the altar alongside senior church leaders raised questions about how he had managed to gain access to the services and present himself as a priest.

After confirming his identity, the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar publicly disowned Onchonga and warned members of the public and church institutions against allowing him to perform any priestly duties.

The diocese subsequently reported the matter to the relevant authorities, leading to his arrest by police officers.

Onchonga is currently being held as investigations continue into the allegations surrounding his activities, including the documents he allegedly used to gain acceptance as a priest and the circumstances under which he managed to conduct religious services.

The case has attracted attention in Lodwar as authorities work to establish the full extent of his activities and whether other individuals may have been involved in helping him operate as a fake cleric.
