It’s alleged that Zuma, real name Sabelo Zuma, has been playing hide-and-seek since 2024, after failing to refund R28 000 to Venda event organiser Innocent Mbedzi.

Innocent claimed he booked Zuma in October 2024 to perform as the main act at Come And Hang With Us, held at Lifestyle Pub & Grill in Waterval, Limpopo.

He said the amapiano star arrived when the venue had already closed.

“We agreed that his performance would take place at 1am, as the venue was scheduled to close at 2am. But he only came at approximately 5.28am. By that time, the venue had already closed, and the crowd had left,” said Innocent.

He said the problem started when Zuma secured several bookings at local clubs.

“I had an agreement with his team that, in order for me to receive a discounted booking fee, I should secure another performance for him in Venda so that he would have more than one show during the trip. I managed to secure a second booking for him at a different club.

“The situation changed after both venues released their promotional posters. Once people became aware that Zuma would be in Venda, several clubs approached his team directly and wanted to book him for other performances at lower prices because he was already going to be in the area,” Innocent said.

He claimed he lost a lot of money, as people who came for Zuma’s performance demanded refunds.

Innocent said Zuma apologised and suggested he organise another event where he’d perform for free.

“I explained that I didn’t think I could afford to host another event because I had already spent over R60 000 from the budget I had available. His team suggested I secure bookings for Zuma at other venues in Venda so that I could recover some of my money.

“I agreed because I have relationships with clubs and venues. I approached more than five venues, and several of them showed interest.”

He added, however, that he later started seeing posters advertising Zuma at some of the same venues he’d approached.

“When I asked his team what was happening, I was told that a few venues had approached them directly and that the performances had been confirmed.

“I continued asking Zuma and his team about my refund, but I was repeatedly told that I would be paid. Eventually, Zuma blocked me.”

Zuma was unavailable for comment when Daily Sun contacted him, as his phone went to voicemail.

His manager, Dada, who didn’t give his surname, said he was aware of the money owed to Innocent.

“We are willing to pay back the money. But Mbedzi must write an email to me, and then I will forward it to Zuma, who will give me the authority to release the money.

“This ruins my reputation. I want this matter to be sorted out,” said Dada.

Zuma is known for songs such as Lo Nyaka, Sithi Sithi, and Sonke.

He has worked with other amapiano stars, including Reece Madlisa, Mr Jazz Q, Cereal Bonile, and Stakev.
