Ombudsman seeks report on teacher’s seven-year assignment to DC office
Attock – The Provincial Ombudsman Punjab has issued notices to senior education officials, seeking a report by October 19 on allegations that a computer teacher has been assigned to duties at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Attock for the past seven years, leaving his post at a government school in Pindigheb unfilled.
The notices have been issued to the secretary of the School Education Department Punjab, the deputy commissioner of Attock and the chief executive officer of the District Education Authority Attock, directing them to submit a detailed report and their replies to the complaint.

The action follows a written application submitted by Numberdar Muhammad Zia Awan and Javed Akhtar Awan, residents of village Surg in Tehsil Pindigheb, who have challenged the teacher’s prolonged assignment to the deputy commissioner’s office.
In their application, the complainants alleged that the computer teacher of Government Boys High School Surg had been performing duties at the deputy commissioner’s office for seven years while continuing to draw his salary from the school’s budget.
They argued that the teacher’s prolonged absence had deprived hundreds of students at the rural school of computer education, which they described as essential in an increasingly technology-driven world. The applicants called for the teacher to be returned to his original place of posting so that students could receive instruction in the subject.

The application further stated that the District Education Officer (Secondary), Attock, had recently issued orders cancelling the temporary assignments of teachers and other school staff working in various government offices across the district and directing them to return to their respective schools.
However, the applicants alleged that these orders had not been implemented fully, claiming that some teachers continued to work in other offices despite the department’s instructions. They attributed the alleged failure to implement the orders to administrative negligence and influential recommendations.

The Ombudsman’s intervention has raised hopes among parents and residents of Surg that the teacher may be directed to resume duties at his school. Local residents have welcomed the move and called for the complaint to be addressed in a manner that safeguards students’ access to computer education.
Educational and social circles in Pindigheb have also urged the authorities to review temporary assignments across the district and ensure that teachers and other school staff are deployed in accordance with the applicable rules and departmental instructions.

They maintained that a broader review was necessary to identify cases in which prolonged assignments to administrative offices might be affecting teaching at government schools and to ensure that students’ educational needs were not compromised.
The education authorities’ response to the allegations was not included in the information available for this report.
