NPP’s 2024 defeat was due to poor governance, not lack of ‘Macho’ Men – Arthur Kennedy
According to Arthur Kennedy, the NPP’s defeat was largely due to poor governance during its eight years in power under Akufo-Addo, which left many Ghanaians dissatisfied with its performance.
He argued that the NPP need to focus on addressing the concerns of Ghanaian voters rather than being fixated on security arrangements ahead of the 2028 general election.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Dr Arthur Kennedy stated, “My big point is that the NPP did not lose 2024 because they didn’t have enough Metro men. The fact of the matter is that they didn’t have enough votes because they spent eight years governing badly and people were unhappy”.
“The important point, Musa Dankwa is sitting there, is there 1.25 million or so NPP members who went into the polling booths and decided to vote for John Mahama. It had never happened before,” he stated.
He argued that the NPP must find ways to win back those voters and reconnect with supporters who stayed away from the polls.
Dr Arthur Kennedy also raised concerns over the argument that the NPP needed to rely on individuals to protect its votes, claiming that ensuring security during elections was the responsibility of the state.
“The president has an oath. He says he should make sure that the laws are duly executed. Security in the country ultimately is the president’s job,” he said.
Dr Arthur Kennedy comment follows Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, who expressed confidence after the party elected First Vice Chairman, Kojo Bamba.
According to Miracles Aboagye, Kojo Bamba will strengthen the NPP grassroots mobilisation and help protect its votes in the 2028 general election.
Miracles Aboagye labelled Kojo Bamba as an influential, innovative and forward-thinking politician whose appeal among the youth and grassroots could complement the strengths of the party’s leadership.
He further disclosed that Kojo Bamba’s election reflected the need for diversity within the NPP’s leadership.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, Miracles Aboagye stated, “He is one of the people that we know would be able to provide a certain level of influence on the grassroots. That is Kojo Bamba for you, and that is the level of innovation that he brings to the table that people have not paid their mind to.”
“I am excited about his election because I can tell you one thing for a fact. With Kojo Bamba, the votes of the NPP will be protected. The ballots of the NPP will be protected.”
Also, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, has said Kojo Bamba’s election as First Vice Chairman of the party has unsettled the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Kwesi Botchway Jnr, reaction from some NDC members following Kojo Bamba’s election indicates that the party is in a panic mode.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr argued that Kojo Bamba’s election has sent a clear and unmistakable signal to the NDC.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, October 5, 2026, Kwesi Botchway stated, “The election of Kojo Bamba to the national leadership of the NPP has sent a clear and unmistakable signal to the NDC. And the NDC is in panic mode”.
“The NPP is a national party. The NPP is a party that belongs to every single Ghanaian, irrespective of your race, religion, academic background, colour, competence or whatever,” he stated.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr also criticised the NDC for what he described as inconsistency in its assessment of political figures, citing NDC stalwart Sofo Azorka.
He stated, “You cannot glorify Sofo Azorka and denigrate Kojo Bamba”.
“Kojo Bamba is a professional auto mechanic. He has his first degree. He is a grassroots politician. Kojo Bamba just didn’t start. He represents the young people,” he added.
“You are no wiser than the NPP delegates who decided to vote for Kojo Bamba. Let’s respect the decision of the political party,” he said.
