NDC Finally Speaks on Captain Smart’s Bid for Gomoa West Parliamentary Seat
The NDC leadership in the Gomoa West Constituency has denied having any confirmed connection with broadcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly called Captain Smart, amid reports that he may seek the party’s parliamentary ticket for the 2028 general elections.
The constituency secretariat issued a statement on June 8, 2026, following a meeting on June 7, saying it had become aware of reports circulating in the media about Captain Smart’s alleged interest in the parliamentary race.
The Constituency Executive Committee explained that it had reviewed the issue and considered it necessary to clarify the situation for party supporters, members and the general public.
It said its records did not list Captain Smart as a registered NDC member within Gomoa West. The Committee added that it had also found no evidence of his participation in branch-level or constituency meetings, activities or other official engagements.
Consequently, the constituency leadership said it could not verify that Captain Smart currently has any formal relationship with the NDC in Gomoa West.
The Committee further drew attention to the journalist’s political history, stating that he has previously been publicly associated with the CPP as well as the NPP.
The NDC executives acknowledged that every citizen is free to decide which political organisation to join. However, they maintained that members seeking to operate within the party should demonstrate clear commitment and consistency in order to protect the credibility and structure of the organisation.
The statement also stressed that parliamentary nominations for the NDC’s primaries had not been opened in any constituency nationwide.
Despite the clarification, speculation about Captain Smart’s possible political ambitions continues to generate discussion online, with some people questioning whether the well-known broadcaster will eventually transition from media work into electoral politics.
