Nairobi Pastor Who Earned KSh 1.2 Million Monthly Sues Church

Mamlaka Hill Chapel founder Bishop Charles Muhia Ng’ang’a has gone to court in Nairobi to challenge his dismissal from the church. He is asking for his job back and wants more than KSh 21 million in compensation.

He also wants the court to rule that the church leaders who removed him had no power to do so.

According to the case, Bishop Ng’ang’a earned a gross monthly salary of about KSh 1.2 million before his dismissal. He is now asking the court to order the church to pay his legal costs and interest on the money he is claiming.

The church suspended him in March 2026 and later dismissed him on June 25, 2026. The church said the decision was based on gross misconduct. It also revoked his ordination and named a replacement bishop.

The dispute became public after serious claims about an inappropriate relationship with a congregant’s wife. The matter first came up in a legal fight at the Milimani Law Courts.

The claims were raised by Njihia Njoroge, a long-time Mamlaka Hill Chapel member, after the bishop had sued him for defamation.

Court papers say the issue started in late October 2025. Njoroge’s 14-year-old daughter was given a mobile phone that had earlier been used by her mother. When Njoroge checked the phone, he says he found many messages that he believed were highly inappropriate.

The mother of the girl is not only Njoroge’s wife, but also a senior staff member at the church. She had worked at Mamlaka Hill Chapel for more than 20 years.

The evidence presented to court is said to include WhatsApp messages, audio recordings, and a transcript of a recorded meeting. The messages were exchanged between the wife and a contact saved as “Pastor Charles Office Line,” which was later linked to Bishop Ng’ang’a.

The messages reportedly included late-night chats and messages that showed affection and private planning. Njoroge said the messages crossed moral and professional lines for a church leader. He presented the materials in court as part of his defence in the defamation case.

The case has now turned into a major church and legal scandal. The bishop is fighting to clear his name, get back his position, and recover the money he says he has lost. The church, however, stands by its decision to dismiss him.
