“Move to my right” – Mahama repositions Jean during photo session after swearing in two EC deputies
According to a report by Ghanaweb on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama adjusted the position of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa during an official photo session at Jubilee House on Monday, October 12, 2026, shortly after swearing in two new deputy chairpersons of the commission.
The appointees, Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah, took their oaths before posing for photographs with the President and the Vice President. Mensa was then invited to join the group on the podium.
She first stood to the President’s left. Mahama directed her to the opposite side, to his right, next to the Vice President. She complied, and the photograph was taken.
A second group photograph followed, this time with the families of the new deputies. Mensa was positioned closer to the President on that occasion and was later seen in conversation with him as the ceremony went on.
Akosua Otchere, a presidential correspondent with Citi FM and Channel One TV who attended the event, described the exchange as meaningful. In her account, the President asked photographers to hold on while Mensa was moved to stand beside him. She said the smallest gestures can speak volumes about the recognition given to certain office holders.
Otchere also observed that the EC Chairperson appeared relaxed throughout her time at Jubilee House. She noted the warm exchange of pleasantries between Mensa and several attendees, among them Asiedu Nketia, Joyce Bawah, the Attorney General and Fifi Kwetey.
The ceremony formally brought the two new deputies into the Commission’s leadership, with the photo session marking the close of the swearing-in.
