Meet The Billionaire Owner Of Lavington Mall Who Lived With Two Wives In One House
John Kinuthia Makumi, better known as Mr. Money, was born and has spent his entire life in Kabete, Kiambu County. At the age of 16, he left school to focus on his business pursuits.
His initial venture was selling chicken, which he would purchase cheaper in the villages of Kiambu County’s interior and profitably resale at Kabete market. Through perseverance, discipline, and hard labor, Mr. Makumi started investing in land and real estate with his meager income.
Makumi accumulated enormous riches by the time of his death on December 5, 2019, totaling billions of shillings.
The tycoon made his impact on the affluent suburbs of Lavington by building Lavington Mall, the region’s largest mall. The beautiful building boasts enough of parking, a good supply of water, a backup generator, CCTV, fully functional lifts, fire and safety features, and fire fighting equipment. Urban housing shop businesses, restaurants, beauty salons, a supermarket, and a play area for kids are all located in the mall.

In addition to a 200-acre parcel of land in Loitoktok, Kajiado County, he also owns the Fountain Church in Ngara Nairobi, the Zadar building in Wangige, Kiambu County, and the forthcoming Wangige mall.
In Rioki, Kiambu County, he had a lavish mansion worth several million dollars. He also had additional companies and properties in the East African Community.
The billionaire and his two wives, Agnes Waringa and Irene Nyakio, were quietly residing in the same home until he passed away at age 89 from a heart arrest.
Despite his early school abandonment, Makumi gave his kids the greatest education possible by enrolling them in some of the best colleges in the world. In the 2017 general elections, one of his daughters, Wanjiku Kinuthia, contested unsuccessfully for the Kabete constituency parliamentary seat.
Despite her wealth, Makumi kept a modest, down to earth attitude. Instead of flying, he preferred to drive himself to survey his extensive commercial empire.
