Man Utd Player Ratings: Rashford Disappoints as Dalot Struggles Against Atletico

According to a report by The Sun on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Manchester United experienced another disappointing night in European football after Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Michael Carrick’s side in the UEFA Champions League.

The encounter exposed several weaknesses in United’s performance, particularly in defence, where Diogo Dalot struggled to contain Atletico’s attacking players. Marcus Rashford also failed to produce the attacking impact expected of him, while midfielder Carlos Baleba was among the few players who delivered an encouraging display.

United’s problems began almost immediately after kickoff when Pablo Barrios found the net inside the opening minute. The visitors attempted to regain control of proceedings but were unable to convert their opportunities into goals.

Their hopes of mounting a comeback suffered another setback when Leny Yoro was dismissed in the 74th minute. Atletico subsequently took advantage of their numerical superiority, with Ademola Lookman scoring the second goal to put the result beyond United’s reach.

Diogo Dalot received the lowest rating among United’s starting players, earning 4/10 following a difficult defensive performance. The Portuguese full-back was caught out of position during Atletico’s opening attack and failed to monitor Alex Baena’s movement effectively.

Marcus Rashford was handed 5/10 after struggling to make a meaningful difference in the attacking department. Although he occasionally made dangerous runs behind the opposition’s defence, his final contribution was disappointing. He also offered limited defensive assistance before being withdrawn in the 64th minute.

Senne Lammens was another player who endured a frustrating evening, receiving 5/10. The goalkeeper failed to deal convincingly with Jonathan David’s initial attempt, allowing Lookman to take advantage of the resulting opportunity.

Leny Yoro was rated 6/10 despite his red card. Before his dismissal, the French defender had produced several important defensive interventions and appeared relatively comfortable against Atletico’s attacking threats.

Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven were both awarded 6/10. Martinez displayed reasonable composure when playing out from the back but struggled whenever Atletico attacked the spaces behind United’s defensive line. Heaven showed determination throughout his involvement, although his positioning contributed to the problems surrounding the opening goal.

Carlos Baleba was United’s most impressive starter, earning 7/10. The midfielder demonstrated excellent energy during his first start for the club and Champions League appearance, repeatedly challenging opponents and helping his teammates regain possession.

However, Baleba missed an opportunity to make his performance even more memorable when he failed to convert a free header during the first half.

Andrey Santos received 6/10 after an inconsistent midfield display. His passing occasionally disrupted United’s attacking rhythm, while several unnecessary challenges prevented him from establishing greater control.

Youri Tielemans also earned 6/10, showing encouraging movement and creativity when operating in advanced positions.

Bruno Fernandes was given 5/10 despite producing some of United’s most threatening attacking moments. The captain struck the crossbar with an ambitious effort and narrowly missed another opportunity, but he struggled to consistently dictate proceedings.

Bryan Mbeumo received 6/10 after failing to capitalise on two excellent chances. His movement created problems for Atletico’s defenders, but his finishing prevented United from reducing the deficit.

Among the substitutes, Mason Mount earned 6/10, while Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee were both rated 5/10 after making limited contributions.

Matheus Cunha received 6/10 for his involvement, whereas Harry Maguire was awarded 5/10.

The defeat represented another setback for Carrick, whose team have now recorded four losses and only two victories in their opening nine competitive matches of the campaign.

Manchester United must address their defensive mistakes and improve their attacking efficiency if they hope to reverse their disappointing form in the coming fixtures.
