‘Insane’ moment news anchors explain to irate viewers why they interrupted football game to issue tornado warning

An Atlanta meteorologist was forced to explain her decision to interrupt a college football game for an important weather report.

Channel 2 reporter Ashley Kramlich cut into a Georgia Bulldogs game against the Alabama Crimson Tide with 40 seconds left in the first half to issue a tornado warning.

Viewers were extremely agitated by the interruption, with some claiming the information warning Butts and Jasper counties was extremely repetitive. Others complained the duration of the report was unnecessarily long.

Although Kramlich apologized when issuing a warning for what was a ‘life-threatening situation,’ she said she now stands by her decision and chose not to apologize again.

The news anchor stated the following day that she has a ‘responsibility to interrupt programming’ when presenting information with safety ramifications.

Kramlich captioned a post on her X account saying: ‘We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we won’t apologize for putting lives first.’

‘We stay on the air during life-threatening weather and use a split screen so you can keep watching the game while still getting the information you need to protect your family,’ Kramlich said from the anchor desk.

As a football fan herself, Kramlich said she understood ‘the frustration when a game gets interrupted, but when a tornado warning is issued, your safety has to come first.’

Some game watchers remain unsatisfied with the way the news was reported.

One user said: ‘It wasn’t the fact that you broke in, it was that you weren’t efficient.’

‘We don’t need an education on rotation or definition of tornado speeds for the 100th time.’

‘Just say where the warning is and precautions for safety.’

Another user claimed the station’s policy is the bigger issue: ‘Meteorologists have to awkwardly fill time. Tell us what we need to know and move on.’

Another user called the information ‘useless’: ‘You said like 50 times the game was still playing WHEN OBVIOUSLY WE CAN SEE IT.

‘The amount of wasted time giving useless information is the problem here.’

WSB-TV made a statement on Facebook claiming they are ‘committed to keeping viewers informed and safe when severe weather threatens any community in our viewing area.’

According to the Federal Communications Commission, ‘Information about a current emergency that is intended to further the protection of life, health, safety and property’ has to be broadcast.
